Rescue workers from the Ypsilanti Township Fire Department and Huron Valley Ambulance extricate a man from his car at the scene of an accident Jan. 28, in the westbound lane of Michigan Avenue near Dawsonville Road. A refuse truck carrying a roll-off Dumpster was turning into 3375 E. Michigan Avenue as a car attempted to pass the truck making the turn. The road was closed to traffic while rescue workers carefully spent 1 hour and 30 minutes to extricating a 51-year-old Ypsilanti Township resident from his vehicle pinned under the truck. Following extrication the patient was flown the hospital by University of Michigan Survival Flight helicopter. As of Monday the patient was hospitalized and listed in serious condition. The driver of the refuse hauling truck, a 46-year-old Detroit resident, was uninjured. |
